Three Rivers Homeschool Cooperative is open to new members and has a brand new program to accommodate a day-to-day homeschool program for elementary and middle school children (hopefully high school in the near future). I am especially interested in upper elementary and middle school age children, but am happy to consider lower elementary and high school age children.
I am looking for families that would like to share a day-to-day learning situation, share tutors for certain subjects, share field trips together, community service projects, and to help teach together. Our program is designed around different parents, tutors, and the group lead (myself), working with the children as a team to provide a fun and academic program. I loosely follow a Montessori approach, a growth mindset, and Forest School models, and encourage Socratic discussion. All are child centered, allow for movement, and promote problem solving and some self-guidance and organization skills that not only help children build academic skills, but life skills as well.
Our group embraces equality and does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, class, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or other aspects of what we look like or where we come from. I also ask that all members actively participate, show a high level of respect to all other members, and are generally positive, kind, and thoughtful.
We are also a secular group welcoming families from a variety of backgrounds. We embrace and encourage diversity especially in respect to philosophical differences. Our group is happy to accept families who are Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Atheist, Agnostic, or any other faith or lack thereof as it has no place within the group itself. We embrace science and technology, as well as environmental and social awareness.
THIS IS NOT LICESNED CHILDCARE OR A SCHOOL. We are a COOPERATIVE that can operate as a ‘micro-school’ through shared instruction. Please visit the web site/blog for more information and lots of details. Please feel free to ask questions once you have read about who we are and are familiar with our policies and goals. We are limited in space, but if there is enough interest in Three Rivers, I would love the opportunity to grow and move to a larger space, so even if we are small now, I am happy to start a waiting list for future expansion.
