Lead Engineering Technician V (Lead Metal Smith/ Model Maker)

 

Summary: Supervises and schedules work for Engineering Technicians, Machinist, Sheet Metal Workers, Welders, Spray Painter, Trade Helpers and Tool Room Attendant.  Also works as an Engineering Technician.

 

 

This position is a Full-time position

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Functions as a senior Metal smith/model making engineering technician with a  background in applying engineering techniques and principles to the design and development of unique, one of a kind mechanical engineering applications.  

·         Reviews and analyzes mechanical engineering drawings and systems and recommends methods for the modification of those systems.

·         Plans, designs and constructs models and prototype hardware and installs adaptations on existing mechanical systems to meet unique installation requirements.  

·         Is a consultant to engineers and other technicians proposing changes and solutions to design and fabrication efforts for hardware and other mechanical systems for ship and shore station applications. 

·         Provides direction, consultative services and over-site/quality assessment functions for a team of technicians and model makers.

·         Prepares cost estimates for both development and production type efforts.

·         Schedules work to meet established priorities and deadlines.

·         Selects and assigns personnel to meet technical requirements.

·         Reads blue prints, sketches and specifications to plan and layout various projects.

·         Inspects work in progress and upon completion to assure all requirements are met.

·         Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:  

·         To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. ·         Must be able to obtain Secret security clearance.

 

Knowledge: 

·         Must be capable of reading blueprints and make accurate measurements.  Must have a general knowledge of the related trades.  Computer savvy – Word, Excel and the ability to learn new programs.

               

Skills: 

·         Must be a highly skilled journeyman in one of the following trades: Machinist, Sheet Metal or Welding. Must be capable of planning and estimating time and materials for all jobs.

 

Education and Experience: 

·         High School Diploma or High School equivalency certification.

·Completion of a technical school, trade school or advanced technical school curriculum or course of training in mechanics, or engineering technology; or, completion of at least 24 semester hours of course studies at an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific or technical curriculum.

·         Five years of experience in performing the foregoing functions.

·         At least 2 years of the foregoing total experience shall have included the development of prototype hardware and devices for installation aboard ship, on aircraft or at shore stations.

·         At least two years of the foregoing total experience shall have been as a team leader with a background in cost estimating.

·         Specific experience shall include documented knowledge of Engineering Drawing Standards, CNC programming standards, Corrosion control coatings including powder coating, and Composite damage assessment and repairs.

·         High School Diploma or High School equivalency certification

·         Eight years experience performing the foregoing functions.

·         At least 2 years of the foregoing total experience shall have included the development of prototype hardware and devices for installation aboard ship, on aircraft or at shore stations.

·         At least two years of the foregoing total experience shall have been as a team leader with a background in cost estimating.

·         Specific experience shall include documented knowledge of Engineering Drawing Standards, CNC programming standards, Corrosion control coatings including powder coating, and Composite damage assessment and repairs
