The Maintenance Superintendent manages preventive and corrective maintenance programs for a variety of water and wastewater facilities, including building and grounds maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and cost control; supervises and evaluates the performance of maintenance division personnel; troubleshoots systems in the field.
Manages all aspects of the preventive and corrective maintenance programs for the Metropolitan Commission’s water and wastewater facilities, systems, and equipment.
Manages building and grounds maintenance;
Ensures equipment reliability and cost control
Supervises and evaluates the performance of Maintenance Division Personnel;
Ensures assigned personnel comply with safety policies;
Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains equipment and systems as necessary;
Serves as a liaison with contractors and other relevant parities to ensure maintenance is completed as assigned;
Performs welding and fabrication work;
Makes decisions regarding a variety of supplies/service contracts (e.g. generator repair contracts and mechanical contracts).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to gain thorough knowledge of St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission policies and procedures;
Ability to act as a representative of St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission to the public;
Expert knowledge of the practice and procedures of water and sewer equipment and systems maintenance;
Ability to train, schedule, supervise and evaluate the work of others;
Knowledge of all applicable safety practices and procedures and ability to ensure compliance with same;
Ability to effectively communicate with staff, ability to coordinate, advise, and work with other professionals; Ability to make informed and sound decsions;
Ability to operate relevant computer systems, including hardware and software and office machines;
Ability to wear appropriate PPE for confined space entry, including respiratory gear.
Education and Experience.
Bachelor’s degree plus five or more years of relevant experience;
Or Master’s degree plus three or more years of relevant experience;
Or seven or more years equivalent technical training, education and/or experience.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
Work demands occasional strenuous effort, for example, handling moderately heavy tools, equipment or materials of up to 100 pounds. Work requires high risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g. working around moving parts or machines. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, goggles, boots and gloves; may require working in adverse weather conditions. Requires employee to walk or stand for long periods; climb stairs, ladders and scaffolding; bend, kneel, crouch, craw, reach, hold, grasp and turn objects, The work requires the ability to speak normally, to use normal or aided vision and hearing. The work occasionally requires dealing with irate customers and citizens.
