The Assistant Director (AD) of Behavioral Support Services (BSS) is responsible for coordinating the daily activities of the Behavioral Support Services, to include the timely review and assignments of requests (client cases) for Behavior Assessments, Behavior Consultation Services, Mobile Crisis and Behavior Respite.  The Assistant Director will provide backup to the Respite Manager for respite.  The AD will be on call for emergencies that are received for the region.  The AD will work collaboratively with the Southern Maryland Regional Office and the outside contractors on BSS issues.  The AD supervises a team of Psychology Associates, LCPC, LCSW-C, Crisis Intervention Specialists, the BSS Administrative Assistant and Respite Manager.  The AD reports to the Director of BSS and Quality Enhancement.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Assures coverage essential to fulfill key requirements of BSS
  • Effectively communicates with BSS stakeholders, internal and external
  • Provides direct supervision to the assigned staff by interviewing, making recommendations for hiring, and training, evaluating, disciplining, and counselling BSS staff
  • Reviews, approves time sheets, travel vouchers and other reimbursement forms for assigned staff
  • Provides oversight of the functions of BSS and the process to facilitate timely completion of the assigned services and associated fiscal reports
  • When required, serves as BSS liaison to external steakholders as an agent of the Arc of Southern Maryland
  • Receives emergency phone calls and coordinates follow up
  • Actively and efficiently manages clinical caseloads
  • Manages department performance in a dynamic legal and regulatory environment
  • Optimizes the operation of the BSS department in accordance with organizational goals and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborates with the Business Operations Department on BSS billing and budgetting
  • Utilize the corporate financial and clinical case management information systems to ensure/maintain operational and financial excellence of BSS
  • Work with all parties responsible for the renewal of the BSS contract for services    

SUPERVISION OF STAFF 

  • Assures an equitable distribution of responsbillity for evening, holiday and weekend hours by Psychology Assocaties and CIS staff on the on call calendar         
  • Interviews, evaluates and supervises the BSS team assigned to a case
  • Reviews, approves and submits time sheets, travel vouchers, or other reimbursement forms
  • Provides supervision to the BSS Administrative Assistant
  • Provides supervision to the BSS team members in a manner consistent with the agency philosophy, policy, guidelines and procedure  
  • Ensures all assigned BSS team members meet agency requirements for training
  • Sets performance goals tailored to each staff member

 ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested including but not limited to special projects
  • Seeks opportunities for involvement in committees and workgroups in The Arc of Southern Maryland
  • Provides leadership and serves as a role model, both in the community and in the BSS office
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

·       Bachelor’s Degree in a Healthcare Management/Administration or related field with two years of experience initiating, delivering and maintaining services across multiple agencies in diverse groups of people; experience in providing direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities as well as individuals with dual diagnosis.  Two years of experience in accounting or business administration.

·       Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of person-centered planning and self-determination principles, principles of financial management, current theory, principles and practices of behavior support and change strategies

·       Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office

·       Experience facilitating team meetings

·       Demonstrated knowledge and application of counseling skills

·       Experience in developing and implementing behavior change plans

·       Investigative skills

·       Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

·       Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with other employees, people receiving services and the general public in a courteous and professional manner
