Work Location: NAWCAD Patuxent River, MD
Roles & Responsibilities: Full Time position.
This position provides aircraft instrumentation and wiring support to the Air Vehicle Modification and Instrumentation (AMVI) Facility located at the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Patuxent River, MD.
The Engineering Tech III applies technical knowledge to perform general engineering support functions for wiring, drafting, sheet metal, electronics or machining disciplines. Must have technical knowledge to demonstrate a practical application of tools and techniques to assigned duties. This position receives technical guidance from supervisor or higher level technicians. Work is reviewed at initiation for proper techniques and monitored for specific compliance with accepted practices and work assignments.
The Engineering Technician III performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, performs recurring work independently. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions. This technician performs at this level one or a combination of such typical duties as:
· Preflight, post flight various VX-23 platforms (F18,T45, EA6B) as well as flight test pods (ICAP III, DRODI, ReRad) and ground support equipment (test carts, DRODI vans)
· COMSEC duties with secret data handling
· Wire various instrumentation packages
· Wire various VX-23 platforms and pods; follow VX-23 and AVMI processes and procedures
· May perform camera work (DRS with harbor cable as well as the new TTC Ethernet cameras)
Conditions will vary. Most work performed in enclosed buildings. Work will include sitting, standing, walking, lifting and reaching. Must be capable of lifting 50, 50-100 lbs. assisted by other employees.
Working hours are 5:30am to 3:00pm or 6am-3:30pm. Possible flex working hours. Overtime maybe required.
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 6 years’ experience in performing aircraft instrumentation functions
Additional training (current enrollment) technical school, trade school, advanced armed services technical school, or courses at an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific or technical curriculum desired but not required.
Obtain and maintain a Non-Aircrew Crock pit Systems (NACS) qualification
Familiarity with CONDOR 1553 bus simulizer, TTC recorder formatter, MCDAU’s and CDAU’s
Experience working on Aircraft
Conscience in regards to safety, FOD, Tool control, etc.
Possess a valid driver’s license.
U S Citizenship required and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Interim Security clearance prior to hire and maintain clearance throughout employment.
