St. Mary’s College of Maryland at Historic St. Mary’s City is accepting résumés for the position of Development Officer – Major Gifts. The Development Officer-Major Gifts is responsible for soliciting, cultivating and stewarding major gift donors ($10,000+) to St. Mary’s College of Maryland. The Development Officer manages a portfolio, engaging prospects and donors in campaign priorities and in contributing to the success of the College’s students. The position is vital to generating enthusiasm for investing in the College and for developing lasting relationships. The Development Officer – Major Gifts will also help build the major gift pipeline and promote planned giving opportunities.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred; minimum of three years’ experience in fundraising in a nonprofit, higher education or comparable setting; and must have demonstrable experience in soliciting and securing major gifts. The candidate must be highly organized, a strong communicator, willing to travel, and demonstrate a proven ability to meet deadlines and metrics. Experience with planned giving and with development databases like Raiser’s Edge is a plus. Above all, the candidate must have a passion for soliciting gifts that have impact and meaning to both the benefactor and the recipient(s). Any combination of acceptable education and experience, which has provided the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill the requirements of this position, may be considered. Employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
