The William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center has one (1) opening in the Building Maintenance Department for a full-time Assistant Maintenance Mechanic at the entry level of $20.85/hour. The position is in a union-represented bargaining unit covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Persons bidding for this position must be able to perform a variety of concurrent tasks, including:
- HVAC: Diagnosis and repair of A/C and Heat Pump systems; refrigeration problems (compressors, electrical components, charging systems); silver solder; and leaks. Clean and replace HVAC filters and keep accurate records of such. Must have (or obtain within 6 months) CFC Certification.
- General Plumbing: Must be able to solder leaking copper pipes, repair toilets, unclog drains, repair or replace hot water heater elements and faucets, and unclog ice machine drains. Maintain all ice machines; change water filters and keep accurate records of such.
- General Electrical and Low Voltage: Must be able to do minor electrical work such as adding or replacing receptacles, switches, ballasts, and bulbs; trace thermostat wiring and mechanical switches in A/C units.
- Heating: Must be able to maintain boilers, air handlers, oil furnaces as well as nozzles, burner assembly, flow valves, zone valves, circulators, oil and air filters. Must schedule and work with outside service technicians. Must keep accurate records of such.
- General Mechanical: Must be able to perform minor mechanical work such as engine diagnosis and repair, oil change, spark plugs and all repairs on fleet vehicle’s and turf equipment.
- Other: Must have (or obtain within 6 months) a Certified Pool Operator License; support IT Department with wiring and equipment; repair and maintain housekeeping equipment; repair or replace doors, locks, and windows; work at other locations in the D.C. area on special projects, scheduled maintenance, or repairs as assigned.
- This position is subject to call-ins after normal working hours.
