Honey MacCallum Christian (HMC) Preschool Director
JOB SUMMARY
The Preschool Director is responsible for the effective daily management and operations of the preschool, facilitating positive relationships among preschool staff, parents, church staff and congregation. The Preschool Director is responsible for the implementation and innovation of high-quality, developmentally appropriate early childhood educational practices for children 2-5 years within a Christian environment. The Preschool Director is responsible for operational compliance, communications, marketing, general school administration, staff development, management and hiring. The Preschool Director should understand and comply with the preschool’s policies, Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Licensing as well as local, state and federal laws and regulations. This position requires supervisory, leadership and communication skills with a welcoming and supportive demeanor. This person reports operationally and administratively to the Honey MacCallum Board of Directors and the Senior Pastor.
QUALIFICATIONS
● Commitment to the Christian faith and to align with and abide by the values, vision and mission of the Patuxent Presbyterian Church.
● A Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
● Minimum of three (3) years teaching experience in an early childhood setting.
● Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
● Ability to work well with others (staff, children and parents) and to foster a team environment.
● Administrative skills: experience planning, organizing, staffing and scheduling, and the ability to use Google Workspace.
● Financial management skills.
● Ability to work professionally and courteously with parents, teachers, HMC Board Members, other church officers and employees, and other members of the church.
● Attention to detail with demonstrated initiative in solving problems and taking on new tasks.
All applicants must meet MSDE Childcare Licensing requirements, including criminal background checks and social services history. Professional and personal references will be checked.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Foster a Christian environment for students, staff and parents and implement strategic plans and goals that support the mission and vision of the church and school.
2. Set a professional and positive tone for the school.
3. Implement developmentally appropriate curriculum that supports the whole child- spiritually, socially, emotionally and academically.
4. Ensure the school meets all MSDE childcare regulations.
5. Facilitate student enrollment and registration process.
6. Supervise, train, recruit, interview and hire preschool staff.
7. Create, enforce, and communicate school policies, procedures and guidelines and update HMC Staff Handbook and teacher contracts.
8. Effectively communicate with parents, staff, and church community.
9. Support staff when conflicts arise between staff and parents or when dealing with student behavioral issues.
10. Maintain confidentiality of records and personal information related to HMC operations, students and personnel.
11. Work with the church Trustees to assess the physical condition of the facility and make recommendations for repairs/updates as required.

II. PERFORMANCE APPRAISALS
The HMC Director shall undergo an annual performance appraisal, prior to the May Board meeting. Discussions will include position description review, how the Church may better serve the employee, employee’s performance, and salary considerations.
III. MISCELLANEOUS
Each employee will be given a copy of their position description (PD) and the HMC Staff Handbook prior to their first day of work.
All employees are responsible for following the policies and procedures contained in these documents. Employees need to become familiar with all policies and procedures and the contents of their PDs as soon as possible to ensure they are aware of all their responsibilities.
