Since 2012, Our Place Waldorf Soup Kitchen has served over 21,500 adults and 7,900 children in Charles County. What began as one evening a week dinner service has expanded into 3 evenings a week, with a 4 th being added in October. As the cost of living rises and food security becomes a greater concern, Our Place Waldorf strives to meet the growing need of our community by offering a nutritious, hot meal to anyone who walks through our door, in a welcoming, friendly environment.
Our Place Waldorf's vision is to improve the quality of life and restore the dignity of Charles County, Maryland residents in need by providing services that reduce and eliminate the dehumanizing effects of hunger and poverty. We partner with local volunteers and agencies to provide take-home snack bags, health screenings, clothing and personal care items to our dinner guests.
Our Place Waldorf Soup Kitchen has an active Board of Directors that makes annual financial contributions and volunteers regularly, both at evening dinner services and community resource events. We hired our first part-time program coordinator in 2018 and recently added another part-time coordinator to help facilitate our 3 rd and 4 th dinner service evenings. As the need for nourishment and social support grows, Our Place Waldorf Soup Kitchen has continued to expand to meet those needs, however we cannot sustain this growth on our own. This is when we call on our neighbors to help battle hunger in our own backyard, and it is an exciting time to get involved.
The Board of Directors is thrilled to announce our first inaugural Bountiful Harvest Gala, a semi-formal sit-down affair at the Great Waldorf Jaycees taking place at 6:00pm on November 2, 2019. The evening will include delicious food, live music, and a silent auction. Tickets are $100 each and can be purchased at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/4307178. $60 from each ticket is tax deductible and several sponsorship levels are also available.
With the community’s support, Our Place Waldorf Soup kitchen will be one step closer to realizing the ultimate goal of having a permanent location from which they can serve dinner to all Charles County residents in need 7 nights a week, as well as offering other necessary amenities to improve the quality of life for all our guests. Please visit http://www.ourplacewaldorf.com/ to learn about other ways to get involved.
